Singing the alphabet song is easy.
Singing the alphabet song in a round is only a bit more challenging.

In this video and performance I try to simulate the sensation of wrapping one’s tongue around unfamiliar words, sounds and meanings by inhibiting my tongue during a simple singing exercise. An only child, born in Hong Kong I immigrated to Canada with my parents in 1984. Growing up in a Mandarin and Cantonese speaking household meant that practicing my English happened chiefly at daycare and at school.

This video was initially created to be played as part of the live performance. It is a celebration of the frustrations and rewards of taming while unleashing one’s tongue.
